Quenched

Psalm 42: 1-2
"As the deer pants for the water brooks, so pants my soul for You, O God. My soul thirsts for God, for the living God, when shall I come and appear before God?"

What a beautiful word picture of where we are today. The hart, or deer as we know it, will feed near the water and enjoy the benefit of being able to quench their thirst. But, as they are driven away, hunted to the point of exhaustion, totally parched, burning with heat, panting for water, ready to give up the fight, they come to the stream and enter. Many times, swimming to the middle with only their nose exposed; completely submerged in the water, not only safe, but
totally refreshed, and restored. Ahhhhhhhhh!

I see myself sometimes as I think of this picture. Pressing hard to accomplish so many things and faced with distractions that attempt to pull me away or force me to move in another
direction. I’m running hard but faced with so many obstacles. I keep longing for some relief, or
an easier path, but through my own eyes I can’t see one. But, in ways only God can do He brings
me to an oasis. I bend down, so hot, so tired, cupping my hands to receive that which will
satisfy, and then comes the first taste of the cool refreshing water, and my longing ceases and
the thirst of my soul is quenched.

Our spiritual soul is no different. It becomes dry, and thirsty. In the times that we are facing
right now, you may become weary, and feel like I’m too exhausted to take another step. Be like
the Hart and leap into the presence of your God and Savior and let Him quench the thirst of
your soul.
