I WANT YOU

Ephesians 6:10-13 (NLT)

Have you ever seen the recruiting poster from World War I? It portrays a
commanding older gentleman with a chiseled face, white flowing hair, white
bushy eyebrows, and a white goatee. The character symbolized the U.S.
government and was named Uncle Sam to make the government seem
personable. He was dressed in a red bow tie, a white dress shirt, a blue overcoat,
and a patriotic top hat decorated with stars that you would assume was born on
the 4 th of July. He was shown pointing his bony finger at the possible recruit with
the words, “I WANT YOU” printed at the top in bold black letters urging the young
men to join the war effort by enlisting  in the Army. It’s hard to believe but that
iconic poster in American history is 104 years old as of July of this year. It was first
presented July 6, 1916, on the cover of a well known magazine at the time called
Leslie’s Weekly. It was meant to arouse the spirits of young men to fight the good
fight against the evil invader of free and sovereign European nations. It was less
then a year later after the recruiting poster was published that the U.S declared
war on Germany in April of 1917. It was clear the message from Uncle Sam was a
call to action. His stern look and  pointing finger nonverbally stated that it was a
moral responsibility to defend those who could not defend themselves.

Today as Christians we face a similar call to action from our God. Our Father in
Heaven is looking for recruits to fight the good fight. He stands at the threshold of
eternity  pointing His finger down toward His people saying, “I WANT YOU”.
If you’ve not noticed, this country is in a fight for it’s spiritual life. There is no
doubt the line in the sand is drawn ever deeper between the Church and those
who oppose it. God is calling you to do great things for His church and expand the
Kingdom. And He doesn’t send you into battle without providing you with a
weapon. Paul explains in 1 Corinthians Chapter 12 Verse7  that the Holy Spirit has
equipped you with special abilities unique to you with the purpose to build up
Christ’s body which is the Church. But here’s the deal; God isn’t going to force you
through the recruiting door. The decision is yours to make. But I would encourage
you to see the opportunity that the Lord has given you as a  member of His church
at this very special time in biblical history.

The spiritual warfare that we see today is played out in the lives of Americans in
cities and towns throughout our country. The Enemy of our soul seeks to diminish
the witness of Christians to the resurrected Christ and to blind the eyes of non-
believers from the truth of God’s Word. Now is the time to pick up your cross and
fight the good fight. God’s got a place for you to serve in His Army and He will use
the special abilities He has blessed you with to make an impact on those who He
has placed around you. Paul writes of our service to Him in Ephesians 6:-10-12, “
A final word: Be strong with the Lord’s mighty power. Put on all of God’s armor so
you will be able to stand firm against all strategies and tricks of the Devil. For we
are not fighting against people made of flesh and blood, but against the evil rulers
and authorities of the unseen world, against those mighty powers of darkness
who rule this world, and against wicked spirits in the heavenly realms.” We are
engaged in a mighty spiritual battle;  believers find themselves subject to Satan’s
attacks because we are no longer a resident of this world. All of God’s church
needs to rise up to defeat the Enemy. How about you? Are you ready to join
God’s Army? Do you see your Father in Heaven pointing His finger and saying, “I
WANT YOU”? If you do then Let’s Roll!!!
